I have been a mom for almost two and a half years now, three and a quarter years if you count my pregnancy. Before becoming a mom, I held many positions, from a part-time grocery clerk to an Underwriter at an international insurance brokerage. I graduated high school, earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and even took some post-graduated classes at UNCC. All the things I had done and experienced in my first 28 years of life could not compare to the hard work I have faced as a mommy.
Don’t get me wrong – it is the most rewarding job I have ever had. My favorite boss cannot compare to my beautiful daughter. The worst day in the world can be made bright just by her smile. The most stressful situation can be alleviated with just a hug or a kiss. Being a mom is the greatest job in the world!
But it is still a job. And it is a HARD job! There are so many more job duties being a mommy than being any other professional. The hours are terrible – no vacations, no time off, no weekends to relax. The pay is horrible – oh wait, what pay? The only payment I get is hugs and kisses, which I will take any day over dollars, but unfortunately the electric company doesn’t feel the same way!
An article on Salary.com recently tried to compute the average mom’s job description and salary and quite honestly, even I was overwhelmed at the results! Kinda makes a girl jealous!
